Just an impression after the first 3 or 4 riffs: regardless of personal preferences about the preferred type of bass , it seems to me that this Jazz BAss is slightly better than the Precision Bass used ( especially in the midrange frequencies, which in this Precision seems a little cardboardy ) but perhaps it was used in a different way than my personal taste. Thanks, anyway : useful test. p.s. the best bass lies somewhere between these two :-)

I actually understand it. I am so stoked! I am 71 and embarking on my journey to learn bass. The most interesting thing is when I picked up bass, I heard the base in every song! I couldn't sort it out before. My songwriting and mixing are better, and I think I am in beginner heaven. You are a very good teacher. I appreciate the humor, too! ❤

I expected cringe and instead you somehow didn't ever stop being sincere and thoughtful with a pleasant amount of humor. I have to say that you seem to be a legitimately talented teacher. I can't judge bassists but I can judge teachers and you are riding a careful blend of stoic and silly that disarms enough to allow for education. Truly impressive.

I chuckled when you played YYZ by Rush. Alex, the guitarist for Rush, was flying into the Toronto Intl airport (airport code is YYZ). He tuned into the airport’s VOR, a navigation beacon, when he heard the identifying transmission of the lettering “YYZ” in morse code and that rhythm stuck with him. So while you are playing the line from the song you’re really doing morse code for those letters.

My brain is numb. Holy cow bro, how to over complicate and reverse engineer a simple bass riff that a guy just came up with screwing around one night. I’m exchausted at the 4 min mark. Said from a drummer that screwed around a lot and came up with some fun grooves that never expected anyone with a degree in archeology to deconstruct and hypothesize. After all this I need a freezing nap hoping and praying I get four minutes of my life back 😂

I just got my first bass yesterday, i was a little sad because the sound was very rattly and didnt know if i suck to much or the bass was not good (Ibanez grs200). I had to turn bass and treble down to avoid an anoying poping sound if a plucked the strings too hard, and muted notes sound bad. I did all of the steps in this video and now the bass sounds completly different, even with bass and treble at max there is no pop or rattle. Thank you very much ❤

My honorable mentions: Fallen Leaves - Billy Talent. An easily digestible but still challenging drop d bassline Elephant - Tame Impala. Pretty badass with a very uncommon tuning (D standard; all strings dropped by one note). Might be more difficult on short scale basses

This is a solid way to learn a lot of the concepts of being a good blues Bass player.

8:44 Peter Steele is a good example of different pick placement, when he palm mutes or plays notes he plays them around the bridge to the bridge pickup, but when he plays chords he's all the way up above the neck pickup

run to hills is not even maiden's fastest gallop. it was like 150 bpm , steve broke that speed , on 86's Caught some where in time with a gallop that was doing 180 bpm . and then broke it again with the following album (7th son of a 7th son) on the song Only the Good Die Young which was like 195 bpm. after learning those two , run to the hills feels slow to me.

muting the strings while playing with a pick is waaay more difficult to do so playing with a pick is a whole different skill level to achieve.
